This place is the best! I spent several days in Scottsville on a trip recently and I found myself coming here every day after I discovered it. They have great drinks and also food options (including vegan baked goods), the staff is friendly, and it's a very cozy place to sit and read or write for a long time. The book selection is also great! It's a relatively small selection but they have some great pieces - I don't often buy many books from random small selections, but I left Baine's with three new books because I couldn't resist.

So happy this coffee shop is in Amherst now. Looking forward to it growing and becoming more and more cozier. I really like the one in Scottsville. Very cool place right on Main Street in downtown Appomattox. Lots of great books and various Associated materials. Combine this with great desserts,food and the java makes for a very neat experience. All contained within a pre Civil War building. If you go anywhere around Appomattox make a point to stop by there and enjoy the atmosphere..

A very cozy place to drink coffee and enjoy a good book! It's in historic downtown Appamatox so going inside is definitely a blast to the past. It has a used bookstore inside that's clearly well-loved with an interesting assortment of older titles. Parking is easy right outside the shop on the one-way street. The coffee selection was pretty standard but had a few interesting ones like marshmallow lattes. Overall, it was a pleasant place to get a coffee or tea and has a home-y atmosphere. I did see a few posters about live music, but there was not any happening when I was there on a Tuesday morning so I can't say much about that.

My family came in for my husband's college graduation and we wanted to show them Baine's Books and Coffee. They thought it was super cute and delicious! They have freshly squeezed lemonade which is amazing and all of their coffee is also very good! It's always a favorite coffee shop/bookstore of mine and I always tell people about them! Try a hot latte with almond flavoring and the quiche!

Rustic bookstore/coffee shop set in historic Appomattox. Great place to catch up with friends or take a break as you are seeing the sights. So excited that Baine's will open a coffee shop in Second Stage's building in Amherst, VA.

Very nice staff. Thursday night from 7:00 till,it's open mic night. And most fri. and sat. nights there is live music.

The usual millenial coffee shop feel with pretentious young people working behind the counter that probably have never read a book, except those assigned to them in school. Asked if they had any George Eliot or VC Andrews and just got a blank stare. Was expecting him to actually ask, "Do you want that iced or hot?" to my question. Having lived all over, not impressed.

Exactly what you expect and want from a coffee shop. Rustic, friendly baristas, and good prices. Also has its own little free library!

Cool spot for coffee and old books. I like how they're are no random puppets hanging around starting at you like some places in this world. Not here though.

I love the old-timey feel of this place. Every time I walk in there I feel like I am being transported to a a different time and place. My kids and like to go there on Saturday mornings to get breakfast and play games. The quiches are excellent. The sausage egg and cheese is my favorite. It has like a pound of meat in every slice (j/k). Their coffee is outstanding. I think it's locally roasted and always tastes super fresh.

A great place to work and get a coffee. The coffee is local roasted which is pretty neat. The drinks themselves aren’t the most amazing, I’ve asked for an americano and received an iced coffee before haha but regardless they’re all nice folks and have a cool little historic place. I also like the bookstore aspect of it, you rarely see these anymore and it’s refreshing.

.the latte is wonderful the atmosphere is always enjoyable. My Grandson Tre' Tyree who is a very talented young man played guitar and sang with Russell Lynch and Peter Freeman. It has been awhile since he played there. The night was enjoyed by all.

Really cool historic building with every book you can think of and a wonderful coffee selection. Relaxed atmosphere makes you want to stick around. I'm going back for music venues.
